GOOT Game

At the end of their stay in New Zealand lots of students ask us if other people saw as much of the country as they did. Well now we have a way to find out. Welcome to the GOOT Game.

The GOOT Game is designed to encourage you to see more of New Zealand, get you off the beaten track and to take you places you probably wouldn't normally see. It is also an opportunity for a little friendly competition and for us to find out how much you guys really do see during your stay in our wonderful country.

The GOOT Game is simple. We have located approximately one hundred locations, icons, people or objects around New Zealand. Competitors need to find as many as possible (if not all!) and will be awarded points based on the perceived difficulty of locating them. The team or individual who collects the most points wins.

1. Register a team (or register as an individual) on the Signup Page.

2. Take a photo of yourself or team at each of the locations, icons, people or objects listed under the following headings in the GOOT Passport.

  • Natural Wonders
  • Constructed Wonders
  • People
  • Places
  • Summits
  • Signs
  • Modes of Transport
  • Kiwiana
  • Giants

the number of points you receive for each location, icon, person or object is listed in the passport. All members of the team must be in the photo to receive the associated points. Each photo must also be validated by the "object of the month" (see below).

3.
Complete the GOOT treasure hunt. Clues can be found in the GOOT Passport while instructions are on the website.

4.
Bonus points will be awarded for the following:

  • If there is a GOOT t-shirt or hoodie in the photo as well. One point per photo.

  • Each GOOT Passport partner that you give patronage to (these are all the partners that provide discounts in the GOOT Passport). You will need to provide us with will some form of need evidence! One point per team/individual.

  • Each GOOT challenge that you attempt. Once again we will need some form of evidence. A list of GOOT challenges can be found on the website. One point per team/individual.

5. Email your photos or answers to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it - we will award you the associated points and add these to the points table.

Only photos taken during the game month are valid. You cannot save up your photos for a few months and then send them all in one go. To stop competitors cheating there will be a new object announced each month which must be visibly displayed in the photo with you. This "object of the month" will be announced at the start of each month and can be viewed on the Scoreboard page.

Photos and answers must be received by the end of the month to be eligible for that months game (photos received after the end of the month will count towards your total points but will not be valid for the game).

6. Prizes will be awarded for the most points collected in each month.

As well as the winning team(s) we will also keep track of which University group or exchange program the best performers come from (somewhat like the Manufacturers Championship in Formula One). Points will be awarded to the top five University groups or exchange program after each round of the GOOT Game.

So how GOOT a traveller are you? Can you see more of New Zealand than any other student? Enter the GOOT game and find out!
