As of August 2010 the GOOT Game  will be run through it's own dedicated website! (to be announced shortly). Below is a description of the game however so you can get psyched ready to play.

So at the end of their stay in New Zealand lots of students would ask us if other people saw as much of the country as they did. Well now we have a way to find out. Welcome to the GOOT Game.

The GOOT Game is designed to encourage you to see more of New Zealand, get you off the beaten track and to take you places you probably wouldn't normally see. It is also an opportunity for a little friendly competition and for us to find out how much you guys really do see during your stay in our wonderful country.

The GOOT Game is simple. We have located approximately one hundred locations, icons, people or objects around New Zealand. Competitors need to find as many as possible (if not all!) and will be awarded points based on the perceived difficulty of locating them. The team or individual who collects the most points wins.

1. Register a team (or register as an individual) on the GOOT Game website (announced shortly).

2. As you travel around New Zealand take a photo of yourself or your entire team at each of the locations, icons or with people & objects listed under the following categories in the GOOT Passport or the online Game Guide (only available to registered entrants).

  • Natural Wonders
  • Constructed Wonders
  • Historic Wonders
  • Famous Towns
  • Flora & Fauna
  • Lighthouses
  • Maori Culture
  • People
  • Statues
  • Places
  • Summits
  • Signs
  • Modes of Transport
  • Kiwiana
  • Giants

the number of points you receive for each location, icon, person or object is listed in the GOOT Passport or on the online Category Guide. All members of the team must be in the photo to receive the associated points. Each photo must also be validated by the "object of the month" (see below).

3. Bonus points will be awarded if there is a GOOT t-shirt or hoodie in the photo as well. One point per photo.

4. Login & Submit your photos online - your potential points will show on the Leaderboard for all to see. We check all entries are valid and once approved the photos will show on the public gallery and the points will show as approved on the leaderboard.

Only photos taken during the game month are valid. You cannot save up your photos for a few months and then send them all in one go. To stop competitors cheating there will be a new object announced each month which must be visibly displayed in the photo with you. This "object of the month" will be announced at the start of each month and can be viewed on the Leaderboard page.

Photos and answers must be received by the end of the month to be eligible for that months game (photos received after the end of the month will count towards your total all time points but will not be valid for that months game).

5. Prizes will be awarded for the most points collected in each given month.

So how GOOT a traveller are you? Can you see more of New Zealand than any other student? Enter the GOOT Game and find out!
