You won't 'Get Out Of Town' at Stardome... you'll virtually
Get Off The Planet!
The Stardome Observatory and Planetarium is situated on the
picturesque lower southern slopes of One Tree Hill (or Maungakiekie)
- one of Auckland's volcanic cones and most prominent natural
landmarks. GOOT Passport holders are extremely lucky to get
15% OFF
When you enter the Stardome you will begin an adventure
that's truly out-of-this-world! Sit back in the Planetarium,
an all-sky 360º panoramic theatre and enjoy the experience
featuring 3,500 brilliant stars, delivered by state of the art
digital technology with stunning digital surround sound... day
or night, rain or shine. Prepare to be amazed as our guide takes
you on an unforgettable tour of our universe! Stardome also
has an observatory with a Zeiss telescope that is still one
of the largest available for public viewing in New Zealand.
The telescope has also been actively used for astronomical research
and a number of important discoveries have been made with it.
The park surrounding Stardome is otherwise known as Cornwall
Park and is definitely worth a visit in itself with Maori archaeological
sites, playgrounds, BBQ's, walking tracks, and a working farm.
(it's quite amazing seeing so many sheep in the city!).
