The river starts at the base of the Southern Alps in the stunning Mesopotamia valley and shoots you down the river towards the coast with the option of jumping off 'jump rock', a series of rocks hanging over the river at different heights. The grade 5 rapids down 'the gorge' will leave your heart racing and your skin undoutedly wet. The crew are fun, professional and well skilled in showing you a good time.
If you're not heading that way they do a day trip pick-up and drop-off from Christchurch for only $10 extra or if you want to kick about in this beautiful part of the world they have accommodation at the river base - dorms and tent sites for a reasonable price. Rangitata Gorge Trip
/ Grade 1 – 5
The spectacular Rangitata Gorge offers the most breathtaking scenery paired with the thrill and excitement of some of the best rapids commercially rafted in New Zealand. No previous experience necessary; minimum age 15 yrs. A reasonable standard of fitness is required.
Grading: For an understanding of river grading, rivers range from Grade 1 = flat water to Grade 6 = too extreme to raft, waterfalls and massive, confused water.
What you need: All you need to bring is your swimsuit, towel, a sense of adventure and a big smile.
